Ubuntu has long been used across various areas of IoT: robotics, digital signage and edge gateways. To celebrate this presence we’ve built dedicated pages showcasing how Ubuntu has been powering smart IoT. The pages bring to life our expertise in these fields through the deployments and stories of our partners, customer case studies and webinars.
Here’s a taster of what each page brings:
Robotics
From consumer drones to industrial arms, robots have moved out of the labs into our daily life… and Ubuntu is at the heart of robotics! ROS (the robotics operating system), the most popular robotics development environment, is built on Ubuntu. And with a variety of computer vision and neural networks libraries at hand, Ubuntu is the perfect platform to develop autonomous robots and drones. See how companies like Parrot, Aerolion make use of Ubuntu and ROS to build the next generation of drones.
Digital Signage
Ubuntu Core has a small footprint, 4K support and a wide-range of compatible digital signage players. It brings stable platform, designed for 24/7 availability and strong security to resist to screen takeovers and other attacks. We’ve worked with partners that include Screenly, the world’s most popular digital signage player for Raspberry Pi through to BroadSign who power some of the largest media networks worldwide.
Edge Gateway
The latest edition to our vertical pages is Edge Gateway, covering industrial IoT, building automation, transportation, healthcare … These devices are typically used to bridge a world of specialised protocols like Modbus, CAN, Zigbee, COAP to the world of IP and the cloud. Find out how companies like Azeti or CloudPlugs are building upon the Ubuntu Core devices of Dell or Intel to create industrial solutions. Or if you’re familiarising yourself with this space read the IoT reference architecture by the Eclipse Foundation IoT Working Group.
