Supported Ceph versions

Supported Ceph versions are associated with supported stable Ubuntu LTS releases.

The Ceph charms consume Ceph software packages either from a host’s default Ubuntu archive (“Distro”) or from the Ubuntu Cloud Archive (UCA). The purpose of the UCA is to make available recent versions of OpenStack (which consume Ceph) to Ubuntu LTS releases. The selection of a Ceph version with Charmed Ceph therefore often makes reference to the Charmed OpenStack project.

The following table summarises Ceph versions, the UCA (or Distro) and LTS releases:

Supported Ceph Versions Ubuntu LTS OpenStack Supported Versions
12.2.x (Luminous) 18.04 LTS (Bionic) 2018.1 - Queens LTS
15.2.x (Octopus) 18.04 LTS (Bionic)
20.04 LTS (Focal)
2018.1 - Queens LTS
2020.1 - Ussuri LTS
17.2.x (Quincy) 20.04 LTS (Focal)
22.04 LTS (Jammy)

2020.1 - Ussuri LTS
2022.1 - Yoga LTS
2023.1 - Antelope
18.2.x (Reef) 22.04 LTS (Jammy) 2023.2 - Bobcat
19.2.x (Squid) 22.04 LTS (Jammy)
24.04 LTS (Noble)
2024.1 - Caracal LTS

For instance, it is possible to deploy Ceph Quincy on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS via the UCA or on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS via the regular Ubuntu package archive. See Ceph and the UCA for details.
